With its diverse range of insurance and financial services, the Debeka Group is one of the top five in the German insurance and home savings industry. Every year, Debeka receives around 16 million document pages via a wide variety of input channels: clas\u00adsi\u00adcally by mail or fax, by e\u2011mail, as an upload via the customer portal, or via sales. In addition to the sheer volume of documents, the com\u00adple\u00adxity of incoming document types is a challenge due to the many different insurance lines.<\/p>\n

Debeka has been using our smart FIX solution very suc\u00adcessfully for several years. Essen\u00adti\u00adally, two use cases were imple\u00admented here: iden\u00adti\u00adfying the respon\u00adsible division and analyzing the document structure and content. Based on the iden\u00adti\u00adfied document class, routing to the appro\u00adpriate service depart\u00adment takes place and the cor\u00adre\u00adspon\u00adding workflows are started. <\/p>\n

The incoming mail of the car insurance and building society divisions is cha\u00adrac\u00adte\u00adrized by many incoming documents with images such as accident pictures, real estate plans, or ID documents. These documents offer little potential for purely text-based clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion and thus had to be indexed almost entirely manually. Thus, the idea arose to extend the text clas\u00adsi\u00adfier used so far with an image clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion. The new Cognitive Clas\u00adsi\u00adfier now combines the best of both worlds: the proven excellent text reco\u00adgni\u00adtion and now, newly, the clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion of images with Deep Learning. The previous workflows remained unchanged and the front end for users also remained the same. The AI continues to work reliably in the back\u00adground and decides whether text reco\u00adgni\u00adtion, image reco\u00adgni\u00adtion, or both are to be used.<\/p>\n

The auto\u00adma\u00adtion effect of the combined clas\u00adsi\u00adfier is enormous. While the majority of documents con\u00adtai\u00adning images had to be indexed manually before the intro\u00adduc\u00adtion of the new process, this is now less than 10 percent.<\/p>\n
