IDEAL processes more than 500,000 documents annually, totaling around one million pages. The document intake is highly diverse, including hand\u00adwritten letters, pho\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adphed documents, faxes, emails with various attach\u00adments in different file formats, or embedded in the message, medical records, and official documents.<\/p>\n<p>To minimize manual efforts, extract all relevant data accu\u00adra\u00adtely, and promote automated pro\u00adces\u00adsing with a focus on a high dark pro\u00adces\u00adsing rate, IDEAL was in search of an advanced, intel\u00adli\u00adgent solution. This solution needed to handle poorly readable hand\u00adwritten receipts, low image quality in pho\u00adto\u00adgra\u00adphed documents, or the com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion of text and images on documents without any issues. A par\u00adti\u00adcular challenge was the desire to con\u00adclu\u00adsi\u00advely handle simple tasks \u2013 such as address changes or changes in bank details \u2013 already at the first contact with the document.<\/p>\n<p>A clear case for the new Cognitive Clas\u00adsi\u00adfier from Insiders! The Cognitive Clas\u00adsi\u00adfier combines image-based clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion with optimized text-based clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtion through advanced tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgies such as Natural Language Pro\u00adces\u00adsing (NLP) and Deep Learning. With the reco\u00adgni\u00adtion of visual features, the Cognitive Clas\u00adsi\u00adfier can now automate the reco\u00adgni\u00adtion and pro\u00adces\u00adsing of items such as cer\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adcate rolls with seals, notarial documents, or photo attach\u00adments. Addi\u00adtio\u00adnally, the Universal Inte\u00adgra\u00adtion Layer for OCR (ILFO) allows the inte\u00adgra\u00adtion of various OCR com\u00adpon\u00adents to address specific use cases. IDEAL also intro\u00adduced a deep learning-based OCR along with the ILFO.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201eThanks to the Cognitive Clas\u00adsi\u00adfier and ILFO, we have been able to crack the tough nuts in input manage\u00adment and make a signi\u00adfi\u00adcant leap in process auto\u00adma\u00adtion. It\u2019s great to be able to implement new AI tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgies in close col\u00adla\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adtion with the manu\u00adfac\u00adturer,\u201c<\/em> says Carsten Dickau, Business Analyst at the IDEAL Insurance Group.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the com\u00adbi\u00adna\u00adtion of the Cognitive Clas\u00adsi\u00adfier and deep learning-based OCR was tested on the par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlarly chal\u00adlen\u00adging document class \u201aDeath Cer\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adcate.\u2018 This document class fre\u00adquently appears in life insurance and serves as an example for all cer\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adcates whose extra\u00adc\u00adtion is par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlarly chal\u00adlen\u00adging with a classic OCR due to printed water\u00admarks. In the test, a signi\u00adfi\u00adcant quality leap was achieved: 97% of death cer\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adcates could be correctly automated, and in only 3 percent of cases, a verifier had to intervene.<\/p>\n<p>This result thrilled IDEAL so much that the Cognitive Clas\u00adsi\u00adfier and optimized OCR were intro\u00adduced for all document classes of the insurer. By combining image and text infor\u00adma\u00adtion, the Cognitive Clas\u00adsi\u00adfier excels even with pre\u00adviously hard-to-classify document classes, incre\u00adasing reco\u00adgni\u00adtion rates by another appro\u00adxi\u00adm\u00adately 15 percent to nearly 100 percent. The alter\u00adna\u00adtive OCR connected via ILFO also con\u00adtri\u00adbutes to improved reco\u00adgni\u00adtion in the case of qua\u00adli\u00adta\u00adtively poor photos, faxes, or scans, as well as hand\u00adwritten documents, signi\u00adfi\u00adcantly enhancing the higher level of auto\u00adma\u00adtion.<\/p>\n<p>With these inno\u00adva\u00adtive AI com\u00adpon\u00adents, IDEAL can now process infor\u00adma\u00adtion that was pre\u00adviously difficult or impos\u00adsible to extract.
